St. Louis Gateway Rail—The 1970s by Lesley Barker showcases the St. Louis rail scene during the 1970s via photographs of trains on the tracks all over the city. A discussion of each photograph labels the railroad, something about its history, and the location. Most of the photographs were taken by model railroader, John F. Barker to use as documentation for the details he included on his HO-scale cars and locomotives. Published by Arcadia Publishing in 2006, the book is available in local bookstores and online. John Barker’s representative collection of model trains in St. Louis spans 1900-1990 and is housed at the St. Louis Mercantile Library on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus.
